ARTIST STATEMENT
Ryan draws on the elements of air, fire, water, earth and life in her photographic and sculptural representation of Gippsland. Distorting and amplifying features of  the natural environment infusing her art work with surreal fantasy.
In this series, the four corners of Gippsland; North , South, East and West are each represented by giant motif while a totem pole symbolises a fifth point, the regions centre; its heart.
For Ryan “The spiritual energy and integrity of Gippsland’’ were her driving inspiration. “This installation reveals my philosophies, my connection with nature, my inner belief’s and emotional relationship with the land”.
Ryan’s translates the beauty, strength and endurance of nature and her photographs depict a raw, aesthetic view of the natural environment, capturing the spirit of each region within Gippsland.
Ryan reveals images of Gippsland’s North, laden with majestic mountain ranges;  the thriving  wilderness and pristine coast line of the South; the lush pastoral planes and intertwining rivers and lakes which weave through the East; and the tall timbers and gently undulating hills which mark the West and the ancient Tarra Bulga rainforest nestled at Gippsland’s heart.
